How It Works

Resurfacing is when the entire top layer of gravel is loosened up to its original form, limiting the need for us to bring in new gravel. Typically, resurfacing is the best aesthetic choice when it comes to fixing your driveway. It’s also the most hassle-free and cost-effective option. With resurfacing, you can achieve your goal of covering up the potholes and cracks in your driveway while also having the end result look neat and clean. At Frison Construction, we use a power rake, which is a rotor with teeth, to break up the gravel, bring it to the top, and resurface it. Using a power rake allows us to work quicker and more efficiently, as there is no need for heavy equipment or the need to wait for more gravel to arrive. Our results speak for themselves and our customers continue to come back to us for touch ups and reoccurring resurfacing services.

Back Down a Smooth Driveway

FAQ

We've answered some frequently asked gravel driveway resurfacing questions.

  • What is resurfacing?

Driveway resurfacing is one of three options you can choose from when your driveway is cracked. The other options are patching and replacing. Resurfacing, the last option, is when we cover your existing driveway with a new layer of gravel, allowing you to restore the look of the pavement without paying the full cost for a brand new installation.

  • Why can’t you just patch the cracks?

If the cracks in your driveway are larger than a quarter-inch wide, patching is actually not that effective. Water will still be able to penetrate the surface and colder weather will put the pavement at risk of the freeze-thaw effect. Resurfacing will save you a ton of time and effort by completely covering all cracks leading to the subgrade.

  • Can gravel driveways be resurfaced without having to add more gravel?

Yes! Through our use of a power rake, we will be able to resurface the gravel without needing to add more gravel.

  • Do we compact after resurfacing?

Typically on smaller, residential lots, compacting is not needed.

  • How are potholes formed?

Potholes are formed when groundwater seeps into the pavement, causing the gravel to expand and contract. Here on the Texas coast, we have looser soil, so when it rains, it can loosen gravel up. If weight is put on loose gravel, a pothole can start to form.
